- Acupressure
Chinese massage technique releases
muscular tension thorugh applying
pressure to specific points.
- Acupuncture
A healing technique applying similar
principles to accupressure, but involves
inserting fine gold needles, sometimes
with a light electric current to relieve
muscular and neurological problems and
promote healing. Though it doesn't sound
like it, it is relatively painless.
- Aerobics
A series of dance-like exercises set to
music, aimed primarily at enhancing
cardiovascular strength while also
toning muscles and burning fat.
- Aquaerobics
Aerobics in the pool. Very good for
building muscular strength due to the
additional resistance of movement in
water. Participants are also far less
likely to suffer injuries than with
land-based aerobics. Aromatherapy A body
massage with essential oils extracted
from herbs and flowers and dedicated to
a specific purpose such as relaxation or
stimulation.
- Ayurveda
Originally from India, this healing
system combines oils and herbs with
massage to balance the body, mind and
spirit.
- Body Composition
Analysis An analysis of the
ratio of fat to muscle mass, usually
involving the use of calipers and in
some cases being weighed while suspended
in water.
- Body
Polish A
full-body scrub with mild abrasives and
warm oil that stimulates circulation and
gently removes dead skin cells.
- Brush
and
Tone Use of a dry brush to
removes dead skin cells, and stimulate
circulation
- Circuit
Weight
Training A
combination of high intensity aerobics
and weight-lifting for maximum all round
conditioning.
- Chiropractic
The realignment of the spine through
active manipulation primarily to relieve
back and neck problems.
- Dulse
Scrub An
energetic scrub with powdered dulse
(seaweed) and oil or water are to
exfoliate and impregnate the skin with
minerals and vitamins.
- Fango
Warm mineral-rich mud is slathered onto
the body, then washed and scrubbed off
to detoxify the skin and stimulate
circulation
- Flotation
Tank A dark
tank filled with heavily salinated
water. The client floats weightlessly to
achieve a state of deep relaxation.
- Gommage
Creams are massaged into the skin to
exfoliate, rehydrate the skin
- Herbal
Wrap Strips of
cloth soaked in a warm herbal solution
are wrapped around the body to relax the
muscles and draw out impurities
- Homeopathy
An approach to medicine that uses
natural substances to encourage the body
to heal itself.
- Hydrotherapy
Water treatments including hydrojet
massage, sprays and mineral baths
- Lomi
Lomi A
rhythmic rocking-style massage
originating in Hawaii
- Parafango
Volcanic mud mixed with paraffin is
applied to the body to relieve the pain
of rheumatism and arthritis.
- Paraffin
Treatment Warm
paraffin wax is applied to the body to
hold in heat and draw out toxins. Deeply
relaxes muscles and leaves skin moist
and smooth.
- Phytotherapy
Extracts of a huge range of plants are
applied outside and inside the body
through massage, wraps, water and steam
therapies or ingestion in the form of
tea.

- Reflexology
Massage concentrating on the extremities
- particularly the feet to restore
balanced energy flow and relax the body
by applying pressure to spots
corresponding to other parts of the
body.
- Rolfing
A deep massage technique to correct
musculo-skeletal alignment problems
through intensive manipulation of
fascia.
- Roman
Bath A hot
whirlpool with benches - usually
accommodating more than one person.
- Salt
Glow Coarse
salt, often combined with fragrant oils,
is rubbed into the body to exfoliate and
stimulate circulation.
- Sauna A
cedar-lined room is heated to high
temperature to open the pores and sweat
out toxins
- Seaweed
Wrap
Seaweed preparations are applied as a
wrap or mask. Minerals, trace elements,
vitamins, and proteins are absorbed into
the skin to revitalize your whole body.
- Shiatsu
Japanese-style accupressure massage.
Sports massage A deep-tissue massage
specifically targeted at muscles used in
sopecific types of athletic training.
- Swedish
massage Traditional European massage
technique using oils and kneading to
ease muscle aches and tension
- Tai Chi
A Chinese martial art form that combines
meditation and slow movement. Promoted
flexibility.
- Vichy
shower A shower from various jets,
usually applied on a waterproof massage
table.
- Waxing
Warm wax is applied, allowed to harden,
and then vigorously ripped off to remove
unwanted hair from the face, arms, legs,
or body.
- Yoga
Philosophical and physical discipline
using various postures and controlled
breathing to improve muscle flexibility
and tone, improve circulation and calm
the mind.
